DISEASE PREVENTATIVE KETOGENIC DIET
We have re-designed the Ketogenic Diet to slow the progression of disease. Any disease, for those who are diagnosed and to immunize the body against disease, any disease, for those who are not diagnosed. Modified Ketogenic Diet implemented accurately can produce optimum results by way of weight loss, increased energy, and increased body immunity against disease, any disease. Modified Ketogenic Diet supported by proprietary supplements such as Bravo Probiotics cause the human body cells operate at optimum levels where such an environment is not conducive for any disease from taking hold in the body.
When we look to a diet for answers, any diet, it usually has to do with a desire to lose some weight, and to look and feel better about ourselves and the image we portray.
But which diet should we follow, and much more importantly, why? Does the explanation associated with a particular diet make sense? Is there evidence-based research or clinical trials in the medical community to support this or that dietary strategy?
There are thousands of diets, most of which pivot of a reduced caloric intake, and pay little attention to anything else. What about vitamins (vital amines), essential amino acids and trace minerals, all of which the body cannot produce on its own, and needs your help to supply, through diet. Without these in reasonable quantity, serious injury and even death can result.
In history, many different diets have evolved, in which vitamin C, ascorbic acid) had been neglected. According to Linus Pauling (and more recently, the medical community at large), 2 time Nobel prize winner (one for peace, and the other in chemistry for the development of the electronegativity chart of the elements), vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant, which, if taken in mega doses, can significantly reduce the incidence of cancer through its activity on free radicals in the body.
However, among many other roles of ascorbic acid, the most important is its involvement as a cofactor in the production and strengthening of collagen.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It is a protein composed of 1042 amino acids, and is arranged in a triple helix, which is thoroughly cross-linked for strength. Essentially, it represents the scaffolding which holds the whole body together.
It is found in the bones, muscles, skin, tendons and blood vessels, and provides strength and structure.
One of the amino acids in the structure of collagen is Proline. In most cases, the proline residue must be hydroxylated, in order that further hydrogen bonding can occur with the neighboring chains. This hydroxylation is catalyzed by an enzyme called prolyl hydroxylase, and ascorbic acid is a cofactor in this reaction. Without vitamin C, in fact, this reaction cannot occur, and the added inter-chain hydrogen bonds will not develop, causing the collagen fibers being produced to be defective.
In fact, collagen synthesized in absence of vitamin C will denature at 24oc, instead of the 39oc in normal collagen. Since humans have a normal core temperature of 37oc, this poses a real problem. Bones become brittle, joints faulty, blood vessels unable to hold blood, skin ulcerates, teeth can no longer be held and will fall out, and ultimately, if not rectified, death will ensue. The lack of structural integrity of collagen in situ, is the basis of a disease called Scurvy, which, thankfully, is seldom seen any longer.
EAT FAT -YOU MUST EAT FAT
Until very recently, food biochemistry has been quite a mystery, even for physicians. Some generalizations have been made – ‘don’t eat saturated fats… they are not good for you’. This made sense for a physician, and it seems to make sense for most of us. There is some evidence to support a claim like this, but with the incomplete understanding of what happens to a chemical when it enters the GI tract, and the limited knowledge of cross reactions in the body, can we claim with absolute confidence, that consumption of a saturated fat is detrimental to our health. Perhaps saturated fat is harmful in the presence of other nutritional chemicals, and is, in fact, very good for us in the absence of that other nutrient. Perhaps backing up a little to look at the bigger picture might help.
The Rerum Diet is a high fat, moderate protein diet which involves no carbs, adequate supplements and a lot of water. In this diet, fish, fish oils, poultry, some red meats, butter, eggs, cheese, avocados, coconut oil, MCT oils, sausages, and some types of nuts (low quantity) and occasionally tofu, are some examples of foods which are in keeping with this diet.
Per Marcel M. Cohen, P.Eng., (Canada) the originator of No Carbs Rerum Diet where the key is the lack of carbs – no carbs! To understand the basis of this approach, a few basics of metabolism need to be reviewed.
Any carbohydrate which is ingested, will be broken down through various means into their basic subunits, glucose, once absorbed and brought into cells, will undergo conversion, through glycolysis and the Krebs cycle, to produce an abundance of adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), a high energy molecule which is the usable currency of energy in our bodies. But, if the energy is not utilized, it must be stored.
Glucose is a hydrophilic molecule. Storing glucose in general is difficult because of its water solubility and its relatively low energy properties (4 calories per gram carbs) compared with fat (9 calories per gram), and would require a large amount of space. Therefore, unused energy is converted into fat through lipogenesis.
Figure 1 – Excess calories convert into fat
Decades later in life, we may decide that a bit too much fat has been stored, and something must be done to shed those unwanted pounds.
In the absence of carbohydrates, the body is forced to use alternative sources of fuel in order to produce ATP. The Rerum diet, which encourages the use of high fat (certain types) and proteins, causes our metabolism to shift in favour of ketosis.
Ketosis refers to a metabolic state in the body where there is not enough glucose available to use as energy, so a switch occurs where molecules called ketones are generated during fat metabolism, and used for most of the body’s energy. Ketones can be used for energy, and have a special property – they can be used instead of glucose for most of the energy needed in the brain, where fatty acids can’t be used. Also, many tissues of the body prefer to use ketones, in that they will use them as their primary source of fuel when available (myocardium for example).
Ketone bodies are formed by ketogenesis in the absence of glucose and when liver glycogen stores are depleted (or from metabolizing medium-chain triglycerides). The main ketone bodies used for energy are acetoacetate and β-hydroxybutyrate, and the levels of ketone bodies are regulated mainly by insulin and glucagon. Most cells in the body can use both glucose and ketone bodies for fuel, and during ketosis, free fatty acids and glucose synthesis (gluconeogenesis) fuel the remainder.
Longer-term ketosis may result from fasting or staying on a no carb diet, and deliberately induced ketosis serves as a medical intervention for uncontrollable epilepsy, and has shown success with other neurological conditions.
In glycolysis, higher levels of insulin promote storage of body fat and block the release of fat from adipose tissues, while in ketosis, fat reserves are readily released and consumed. For this reason, ketosis is often referred to as the body’s fat burning mode. This is the advantage of the Rerum Diet.
The fact is, in a diet rich in carbs, stored fat will be much more difficult to release, if not impossible in many circumstances. Using our diet, even for general health, I unintentionally lost 16 pounds (my BMI of 27 is at the borderline, and I had not intended to lose weight) in less 2 weeks. Incidentally, I have also had environmental allergies for the past 28 years, which have completely disappeared in my first week on the Rerum Diet.
But are there any other benefits to the Rerum Diet? Absolutely.
Research shows glucose fuels and even causes cancer cells. For greater clarity,
- Scientists have actually shown in the Journal of Clinical Investigation January 2014, glucose can cause cancer via not one, but two biochemical pathways2. There are at least six research studies in the last few years which show that:
a. People with the highest levels of blood glucose develop more cancers
b. People with cancer, who also have the highest blood levels of glucose, survive least.
- Johns Hopkins scientists have shown starving patients of sugar is crucial in colorectal cancer.
- A June 2013 paper in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition listed the following conditions as possibly being helped by ketogenic diets:
Emerging Evidence (some evidence with more research in progress)
- Neurological Diseases other than epilepsy, including Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, narcolepsy, brain trauma, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
- Some types of cancer (especially, some types of brain cancer)
Swedish Study Shows More Cancer in People With Higher Blood Sugar, Regardless of Diabetes
WebMD Health News
Feb. 27, 2007 — Women with high blood sugar may be more likely to develop cancer, even if they don’t have diabetes, a Swedish study shows.
High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) wasn’t tied to men’s overall cancer risk.
But when researchers looked at specific types of cancer, they found that both men and women with the highest blood sugar levels were more likely to have pancreatic cancer, urinary tract cancer, and malignant melanoma (the most deadly type of skin cancer) than those with the lowest blood sugar levels.
Keeping blood sugar levels within the normal range may reduce cancer risk, write the researchers, who included Par Stattin, MD, PhD, of Sweden’s Umea University Hospital.
For the study, Stattin’s team conducted a study of 64,600 non-smoker, non-diabetic residents in northern Sweden when they were 40, 50, or 60 years of age.
Upon enrolling, the participants underwent fasting glucose and glucose tolerance tests, with 85% and 92% normal respectively.

The researchers followed participants for eight years, on average.
Overall, women with the highest blood sugar levels upon joining the study were more likely to be diagnosed with cancer before its end, compared with women with the lowest blood sugar levels.
Also, endometrial carcinoma (endometrial cancer) was more common in women with the highest blood sugar levels, compared with those with the lowest blood sugar levels.
Breast cancer was more common for women younger than 49 with high blood sugar levels, compared with those with the lowest blood sugar levels, the study also shows.
The results held when researchers considered other factors, such as participants’ weight and age.
Their study appears in the March, 2007 edition of Diabetes Care
In summary, the Rerum Diet is safe, it forces an alternate metabolic pathway to energy production that the vast majority of cell in the body can use, while allowing fat stores to be mobilized and weight to be lost confidently. Rerum Diet contributes to many other ailments as illustrated.
