Humber River Hospital (HRH) has a well-established Cancer Care program. Our Integrated Cancer Care Program consists of members from other clinical programs such as Diagnostic Imaging, Endoscopy, General Medicine, Mental Health, Pharmacy, Palliative Care, and Surgery. HRH has a large Cancer Care Outpatient Clinic for chemotherapy treatments, and actively participates in Oncology clinical trials. Humber River Hospital was the first community hospital in Ontario to participate in these clinical trials.
HRH partners with tertiary cancer centres and other academic centres such as Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Odette Cancer Centre, the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Southlake Hospital’s Stronach Regional Cancer Centre. We also partner with community cancer support agencies such as WellSpring, Canadian Cancer Society, and Community Care Access Centres (CCAC).
Our cancer team provides a full range of support to patients who are living with cancer, at all phases of their cancer experience – consultation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and palliative and supportive care. The team is actively involved in initiatives set by Cancer Care Ontario and the Central LHIN Regional Cancer Program. Many of our team members have leadership roles within provincial, regional, and local Cancer Care committees.
Resource information about cancer and our program can be found on our Patient Publications page.
Our Program has a 30 bed inpatient oncology unit that includes a radiation isolation room for the treatment of Thyroid Cancer. We also provide inpatient pain and symptom management support.
Our Cancer and Oncology Clinic has 28 systemic and supportive treatment spaces. Our specialized cancer care team provides systemic therapy treatments which include intravenous chemotherapy and oral therapies, and also offer follow up care including supportive care for cancer related pain and other symptoms.
